Reigning Cy Young winner Max Scherzer will be making the start for the Detroit Tigers when they face fireballer Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.

Right-hander Max Scherzer won his seventh game of the season last weekend against the Boston Red Sox. He pitched 6.2 innings in that game and allowed four runs on 11 hits while striking out nine and walking one. Scherzer is 7-2 this year and has struck out 98 batters in 85.1 innings while only giving up nine home runs.

Alexei Ramirez has had a tough time figuring Scherzer out in his career, going just 5-for-47 against him with six strikeouts. Adam Dunn has just a .225 batting average against the right-hander, but he has hit three home runs off of him.

Chris Sale didn't have his best game last Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels, but he kept his perfect record intact by picking up the no decision. He allowed five runs (four earned) in that game while striking out six and walking one. The left-hander is 5-0 on the season with a very solid 2.06 ERA and he has only allowed 26 hits in 52.1 innings.

Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson has just two hits in 30 at-bats against Sale in his career with a dozen strikeouts. Designated hitter Victor Martinez has fared quite a bit better against him by going 12-for-22 with three doubles and a home run.
