On Monday, Justin Verlander will be hoping that he can pick up his ninth win of the year when the Detroit Tigers face Vidal Nuno and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Last Sunday, Justin Verlander gave up four runs in 6.1 innings against the Kansas City Royals on the road and ended up losing for the eighth time this season. He gave up six hits in that outing and walked one batter while striking out three. Verlander has not looked like himself this year, going 8-8 with a 4.88 ERA and he strikeout rate is far below his career numbers.

Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill has four hits in his 13 at-bats versus Verlander with two doubles and two RBI. Mark Trumbo is just 1-for-6 against the former Cy Young award winner with two strikeouts.

Vidal Nuno made his second start in a Diamondbacks' uniform last Sunday and ended up losing after giving up four runs in five innings. He allowed six hits in that start and walked one batter while striking out four. In 19 starts this season, Nuno is now 2-6 with a 5.10 ERA and he has struck out 7.1 batters per nine innings.

All of the Tigers will be facing Nuno for the first time on Monday night. Their left-handed hitters may have a tough time against him because he has held lefties to just a .231 batting average in 78 at-bats.
