Saturday afternoon the Colorado Rockies will take the field behind Brett Anderson as they face the San Francisco Giants and Matt Cain.  Both pitchers will be making their 3rd starts of the season.

Brett Anderson is still seeking his first win of the year after two less than impressive starts.  In his last outing, Anderson surrendered 5 runs on 10 hits with a strikeout and 3 walks in 6 innings of work.  Last year in Oakland, Anderson appeared in 16 games (starting 5) and compiled a record of 1 – 4 with 3 saves. His ERA was the highest of his career at 6.04.

Anderson has faced a few of the Giants and will have to keep an eye on Buster Posey.  Posey only has 3 at-bats against Anderson but he did manage an RBI double. 

Matt Cain is also seeking his first win of the young season.  His last start was a disaster as he gave up 5 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings.  To make matters worse, 3 of the hits were home runs.  Cain’s two starts this year have given him an ERA of 5.73.  After last season’s 8 – 10 record in 30 starts, Cain could ill afford to start this season poorly.

In his career, Cain has faced many of the hitters on the Rockies’ roster.  Troy Tulowitzki has the best results against Cain with a .328 average, 19 hits, 4 home runs and 6 RBIs in 58 at-bats.
