Thursday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies will send Jordan Lyles (6 – 1, 4.05 ERA) to the mound as they square off against the San Francisco Giants and Yusmeiro Petit (3 – 3, 3.59 ERA).   Lyles makes his 17th start as Petit makes his 7th start and 34th appearance. 

Jordan Lyles didn’t factor into the decision in his last outing after allowing 3 runs and 7 hits through 5.2 innings of work.  He walked 5 and struck out 5.  Lyles has had a short season this year after hitting the 60 Day disabled list in early June with a fractured finger.  Prior to the injury, Lyles was impressive with a 5 - 1 record in 9 starts.  Since returning earlier this month, he has just one decision (a win) in 4 starts.  Last season, Lyles went 7-9-1 with a 5.59 ERA in 25 starts and 2 relief appearances for the Houston Astros.

In 2013, Lyles didn’t face the Giants but he has seen many of the San Francisco hitters before.  The Giants are batting .303 against Lyles with 10 hits, 2 homers and 8 RBIs in 33 at-bats.

Yusmeiro Petit will come in to this game in place of Tim Lincecum, who was moved to the bullpen.  Petit has mostly been used in long relief this season, but he has made some spot starts.  Petit hasn’t earned a decision since late May and that decision was a loss.  He hasn’t allowed any hits in his last 6 appearances but most of those outings were just a few innings.  Last season, Petit was 4 – 1 with a 3.56 ERA in 7 starts and a relief appearance.

In 2013, Petit was 1 – 0 with a 3.56 ERA in 2 starts against the Rockies.  This season, he is 1 – 0 in 4 appearances against Colorado.
