On Monday night, rookie Tyler Matzek (2-9) will be hoping that he can end his five-game losing streak when he and the Colorado Rockies go up against Jake Peavy (2-3) and the San Francisco Giants.

Tyler Matzek had a decent start against the Kansas City Royals last Tuesday, but he still took the loss. He went 6.2 innings in that outing and allowed three runs on six base hits while walking three batters and striking out five. His ERA is now a very high 5.38 and he has given up 10.2 hits per nine innings.

All of the Giants will be facing Matzek for the first time on Monday night. So far this season, the left-hander has held left-handed batters to a .224 batting average against him, but right-handed batters are hitting .308 against him with a .866 OPS.

Veteran Jake Peavy made his fifth start for the Giants last week and he was able to beat the Chicago Cubs on the road. He gave up just two runs in seven innings of work that day while striking out eight batters and walking no one. Peavy now has a 4.48 ERA on the year and has struck out 7.1 batters per nine innings.

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau is just 4-for-22 against Peavy in his career with three walks and three strikeouts. Michael Cuddyer is 4-for-13 against him with two doubles and three RBI.
