Thursday evening, the Colorado Rockies will give the ball to Franklin Morales as they take on the San Diego Padres and Ian Kennedy.  It will be the third start for Morales and the fourth for Kennedy. 

Franklin Morales has gotten two starts due to injuries in the Rockies’ starting lineup.  Morales appeared in relief against the Giants on April 13th but his last start was on April 8th against the Chicago White Sox.  In that start, he gave up 6 runs on 8 hits (including 2 home runs) in just 6.1 innings of work.  His 1st start wasn’t any better.   Colorado will definitely need to see more out of him.

Morales didn’t face the Padres in 2013 but he has faced some of the hitters on the San Diego lineup.   Will Venable had the highest average against Morales with a .667 average and an RBI.   

Ian Kennedy is just 1 – 2 in his 3 starts this season and his numbers aren’t great.  In his last start, he gave up 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings.  He issued a walk while striking out 7.   Kennedy’s ERA of 4.24 could be better but it’s still lower than last year's ERA of 4.91.  And his 1 – 2 record this year might not end up better than his 7 – 10 record in 2013.  

Last season, Kennedy started 3 games against the Rockies with an 0 – 1 record and an ERA of 3.18.  Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki is only hitting .240 against Kennedy but he has 3 homers and 6 RBIs.
