Wednesday evening, the Colorado Rockies will give the ball to Tyler Matzek (2 -7, 5.32 ERA) as they square off against the San Diego Padres and Ian Kennedy (8 – 10, 3.51 ERA).  It will be the 12th start and 13th appearance for Matzek and the 25th start for Kennedy.

The rookie lefty faced the Padres earlier this season and took the loss after getting torched for 5 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings of work.

Ian Kennedy was a hard luck loser in his last outing after giving a solid effort from the mound.  Kennedy surrendered just 2 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 5.  But without help from his offense, Kennedy paid the price.  He hadn’t lost since late June and is 3 - 1 in his last 7 starts.  In 2013, Kennedy was 7 -10 with a 4.91 ERA in 31 starts for the padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Last season, Kennedy was 0 -1 with a 3.18 ERA in 3 starts against Colorado.  This season, Kennedy is 1 -1 in 2 starts against the Rockies.
