Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies will take the field behind Tyler Matzek as they face the Pittsburgh Pirates and Jeff Locke. Matzek makes his 8 ^th start as Locke makes his 9^th.

Tyler Matzek lost his 2^nd straight the last time out and that dropped his record to 1 - 4 with a 4.97 ERA. In the loss, Matzek allowed 4 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) in 6 innings of work. He walked a batter and struck out 2. Matzek hasn't won a single game after getting the victory in his Major League debut. Prior to getting the call, Matzek was 5 - 4 with a 4.05 ERA in 12 starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Matzek has never faced the Pirates and will have to rely on the scouting report and any information the rest of the pitching staff can give him in an effort to prepare for Pittsburgh lineup.

Jeff Locke didn't get the decision in his last outing and that held his record at 2 - 1 with a 2.89 ERA. The last time out, Locke surrendered 3 runs on 9 hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out 5 without issuing any walks. Locke doesn't seem to hurt the team when he is on the mound but he doesn't help them much either. In 2013, Locke finished the year with a 10 -7 record and a 3.52 ERA in 30 starts.

Last season, Locke pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Rockies. But he has held the Colorado lineup to a .182 average with just 4 hits and an RBI in 22 at-bats.
