Wednesday evening, the Colorado Rockies will take the field behind Jordan Lyles as they face the Philadelphia Phillies and Roberto Hernandez. Lyles will be making his 11th start as Hernandez makes his 9th start and 12th appearance.

Jordan Lyles pitched to a no-decision in his last start despite a solid effort on the mound.  Lyles surrendered just 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts.  Without the decision, his record stands at 5 – 1 with an ERA of 3.45.  Lyles is well on track to a better season than last year, when he went 7 – 9 with a save and an ERA of 5.59 in 25 starts and 2 relief appearances with the Houston Astros.

In 2013, Lyles didn’t get to face the Phillies but he posted a win against Philadelphia earlier this season.  In that start, Lyles allowed just a run on 5 hits in 7 innings of work. 

Roberto Hernandez evened his record to 2 – 2 with an ERA of 3.83 after taking a loss in his last start.  In that outing, Hernandez gave up just 2 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) through 6.1 innings.  He walked 4 batters while striking out 3.  Without any run support, Hernandez got the loss.  Last season, Hernandez went 6 – 13 with a save and an ERA of 4.89 in 24 starts and 8 relief appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays.

In 2013, Hernandez didn’t pitch against the Rockies but he did start against them earlier this season. He got a no-decision despite getting lit up for 6 runs and 9 hits in just 4 innings of work.
