On Friday, the Colorado Rockies will face the Cleveland Indians in the first meeting of a three game series. The Rockies will be sending Juan Nicasio to the mound to face Corey Kluber of the Indians.

Nicasio is coming off his fifth win of the season. Nicasio faced the Atlanta Braves on Saturday and pitched six scoreless innings and only gave up two hits while striking out five and walking four. Nicasio was the recipient of a win which put his record at 5-2 with a 3.61 ERA. Nicasio has a propensity of pitching to contact and gives up 1.4 home runs per nine innings which doesn’t serve him well at home. Luckily, he’ll get to face a last place Cleveland team away from the altitude.

Although he hasn’t faced many players on the current Indians roster, he hasn’t pitched very well against them. Michael Brantley is 2-for-3 against Nicasio and Nick Swisher is 1-for-2 with a home run.

Corey Kluber is also coming off his fifth win of the season and got it on Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles. In this game, Kluber pitched seven shutout innings and only gave up five hits while striking out nine and walking two. Kluber is currently second in the American League for strikeouts with 83. He’ll look to add to that total when he faces the Rockies on Friday.

After a rough start to the season, Kluber has really come on as of late and has won three of his last four outings for the Indians. In April, Kluber was 2-3 with a 1.14 ERA. During May, Kluber has improved his record to 5-3 and has lowered his ERA to 3.10.
