Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies will take the field behind Juan Nicasio as they take on the Cincinnati Reds and Homer Bailey.  Both pitchers will be getting the ball for the 8th time this season.

Juan Nicasio took his record to 4 – 1 with a 3.89 ERA after getting the win on his last trip to the hill.  In that outing, Nicasio went 5 innings and allowed just a run (on a solo homer) and 2 hits.  But he had just 1 strikeout as he walked 5 batters.   In 2013, Nicasio went 9 - 9 with a 5.14 ERA in 31 starts.

Last season, Nicasio was 0 -1 with a 7.84 ERA in his 2 starts against the Reds.  In 10.1 innings of work, Nicasio gave up 9 runs on 12 hits.  This time around, he will have to pitch carefully to Brandon Phillips. Phillips is 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, a homer and 3 RBIs against the right-hander.

Homer Bailey took a no decision in his last outing and that left his record at 2 – 2 with a 5.36 ERA.  In that start, Bailey gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings.  He had 5 strikeouts but he also issued 5 walks as he threw 110 pitches.  In 2013, Bailey went 11 - 12 with a 3.49 ERA in 32 starts.

Last season, Bailey didn’t get the decision in his only start against the Rockies.  Overall, he has pitched well against the Colorado lineup but Troy Tulowitzki is 5 of 12 with 2 RBIs against Bailey.
