The Colorado Rockies will face the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, May 9 at Great American Ball Park. The Rockies will send Jhoulys Chacin to the mound to face off against Johnny Cueto.

The last time Chacin saw the mound was against the New York Mets on May 4. Chacin had a rough outing in his season debut and was shelled for eight hits and gave up four runs. Over the five innings he pitched, Chacin walked five. It’s no surprise Chacin was a bit rusty coming off a strained shoulder but the Rockies will stay patient and send him up against the former Cy Young contender Johnny Cueto and hope for better results.

Against current Cincinnati Reds batters, Chacin has held them to a .241 average. Joey Votto is batting .300 against Chacin with three hits and a double. This might be the opportunity for him to get in the win column as he has played well against the Reds. It won’t be an easy task as he’ll face Cueto.

Johnny Cueto is in rare form this season holding a 3-2 record with a 1.31 ERA and 60 strikeouts. As he has done all season, Cueto had a fantastic outing in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Cueto allowed just two runs and three hits during the eight innings he pitched. The Brewers had no answer as Cueto struck out 10 batters and walked just one.

Cueto’s 1.31 ERA is one of the best in the league and other than two home runs he’s given up, he’s been completely dominant. The Reds would love to see this continue as he takes the mound on Friday.
