Lefty Tyler Matzek (2-4) will try to build off of his great start last weekend when he and the Colorado Rockies face Jake Arrieta (5-2) and the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon.

Tyler Matzek was able to pick up his second win of the season last Saturday when he defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates at home. He pitched seven shutout innings in that start and gave up just three hits while walking two and striking out three. The rookie now has a 4.28 ERA and he has only given up three home runs in 54.2 innings.

All of the Cubs will be going up against Matzek for the first time on Thursday. Their left-handed hitters probably aren't looking forward to the matchups, as he has held them to a .191 batting average so far this year.

Jake Arrieta had yet another good start for the Cubs last weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals, but once again he had to settle for a no decision. He pitched six innings in that game and allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out six. Arrieta hasn't given up more than three runs in his last four starts, but he has no wins to show for his efforts.

Rockies catcher Michael McKenry has four at-bats versus Arrieta and is hitless with no walks against him. None of the other Rockies have faced the right-hander yet.
