Tuesday night, the Cleveland Indians will take the field behind Justin Masterson as they face the Toronto Blue Jays and R.A. Dickey. Both pitchers will be making their 9th starts of the season.

Justin Masterson improved his record to 2 – 1 and lowered his ERA to 3.86 after winning his last start.  In that outing, Masterson went 6.1 innings and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts.   Masterson is pitching better as of late but it might not be enough to improve on 2013’s results when he went 14 – 10 with a 3.45 ERA in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances. 

Last season, Masterson was 1 – 0 with a 2.13 ERA in 2 starts against the Blue Jays.  This season, he pitched to a no decision against Toronto after allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 6.1 innings of work.

R.A. Dickey took his record to 3 – 3 and cut his ERA to 4.72 after getting the win his last time out.  In that start, Dickey gave up 3 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings while walking 3 and striking out 8.  Dickey seems on pace to equal last year’s results when he went 14 - 13 with a 4.21 ERA in 34 starts.

In 2013, Dickey was 0 - 2 with an ERA of 3.75 in 2 starts against the Indians.   Cleveland’s Michael Bourn has the most experience against the knuckleballer with 35 at-bats.  In those plate appearances, Bourn is batting .286 with 4 RBIs.
