Saturday afternoon, Josh Tomlin and the Cleveland Indians will take on Nick Tepesch and the Texas Rangers.  It will be Tomlin’s 6th start and 7th appearance and Tepesch’s 5th start.

Josh Tomlin pitched to a no-decision the last time out and that left his record at 3 – 2 with a 3.06 ERA.  In that start, Tomlin gave up 3 runs on 4 hits (including a home run) in 5.2 innings as he walked 1 and struck out 8.  Tomlin probably could have lasted a little longer had he not thrown 100 pitches by that point in the game.   Last season, Tomlin pitched just 2 innings after coming back from Tommy John Surgery.

Tomlin has pitched well against the Rangers in his short career and he has only allowed hits to 4 of the 7 Rangers that he has ever opposed.  Adrian Beltre is 1 of 3 with a homer and 4 RBIs against Tomlin.

Nick Tepesch got his first loss of the season his last time out and that lowered his record to 2 - 1 with a 4.43 ERA.  It wasn’t pretty for Tepesch as he surrendered 5 runs on 7 hits (including 2 homers) in just 2 innings. He walked 2 batters while striking out 1.  Tepesch’s ERA rose nearly 2 runs in the blowout loss.  Last season, Tepesch was 4- 6 with a 4.84 ERA in 17 starts and 2 relief appearances during his rookie campaign.

In 2013, Tepesch lost his only start against the Indians after allowing 5 runs on 8 hits (including 2 home runs) in 5 innings.   He has only faced 6 of the current Indians and they are batting .500 with 7 hits, 2 homers and 4 RBIs in 14 at-bats.
