Sunday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians and Danny Salazar will take on the San Francisco Giants and Ryan Vogelsong. Both pitchers will be making their 5th starts of the season.

Danny Salazar comes into this game after losing his last three starts.   His previous outing lasted just 4.1 innings after he surrendered 5 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) while walking 2 and striking out 6.  Salazar threw 89 pitches in that short span of time as he faced 22 batters. The loss dropped Salazar to 0 - 3 with an ERA of 7.85.  In 2013, Salazar went 2 – 3 with an ERA of 3.12 in 10 starts.

Last season, Salazar didn’t face the Giants and he is without experience against any hitter in the lineup.  He will need to study that scouting report hard to avoid going to 0 – 4.

Ryan Vogelsong is not having a good season either thus far.  His last start was an epic disaster as he gave up 5 runs on 6 hits (including 3 home runs) while issuing 3 walks without a strikeout in a mere 1.1 innings of work.   The loss was his only decision of the season to date and gave him a 0 – 1 record and an ERA of 7.71.  In 2013, Vogelsong was 4 – 6 with an ERA of 5.73 in 19 starts.

Last season, Vogelsong didn’t pitch against the Indians and he has only seen 5 of them in his career.  Michael Bourn has seen Vogelsong the most with .333 average and 2 hits in 6 at-bats.
