Saturday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians will take the field behind Zach McAllister as they face the San Francisco Giants and Tim Lincecum.  It will be the 5th starts of the season for both pitchers.

Zach McAllister has been solid for the Indians, going 3 – 0 with an ERA of 2.28 in his first 4 starts.  In his last outing, McAllister went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts.  McAllister is already on track to better last year’s results when he went 9 – 9 in 24 starts with an ERA of 3.75.

In 2013, McAllister didn’t face the Giants and of the San Francisco roster, he has only faced one batter.  Michael Morse has faced McAllister 3 times without getting a single hit.   

Tim Lincecum comes into this one after getting his first victory of the season and improving his record to 1 – 1.  His last time out, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts in the 6 inning effort.  The Cy Young winner in 2008 and 2009 isn’t blowing people away anymore but he is getting more strikeouts than he has in recent years.  Last season, he averaged a little less than 9 strikeouts per 9 innings.  This season, he is already averaging over 10 per 9 innings.

Last season, Lincecum didn’t get to see the Indians but he has seen some of their hitters in the past. Cleveland’s Michael Bourn has faced Lincecum 23 times and has a career 2.17 average with a double and an RBI.
