Saturday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians will give the ball to Corey Kluber (12 – 6) as they take on the New York Yankees and Brandon McCarthy (4-0).  Kluber makes his 25th start as McCarthy makes his   24th. 

Corey Kluber turned in a solid performance in his last outing and it led to a victory.  In the win, Kluber gave up just a run on 6 hits in 7.1 innings.  He walked 2 and struck out 7.   Kluber has allowed just 4 runs in his last 4 starts and hasn’t lost a game since the end of June.  He is 5 – 0 in his last 6 outings.  Last season, Kluber was 11 – 5 with a 3.85 ERA in 24 starts and 2 relief appearances.

In 2013, Kluber lost his only start against the Yankees after allowing 6 runs and 7 hits (including 2 homers) in 6 innings of work.  New York’s Brett Gardner is 2 for 3 against Kluber with a homer and 3 RBIs.

Brandon McCarthy added yet another win his last time out after another solid effort from the veteran righty.  In that start, McCarthy gave up just a run on 5 hits in 5.2 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 8.  McCarthy has won all 4 of his starts for the Yankees after coming over from the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He hasn’t tasted defeat since late June and is 6 – 0 in his last 7 starts.  In 2013, McCarthy was 5 – 11 with a 4.53 ERA in 22 starts for the Diamondbacks.

Last season, McCarthy didn’t face the Indians but he has a no-decision in his only outing this season against Cleveland.
