Wednesday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians and Trevor Bauer will take on the Kansas City Royals and Yordano Ventura. It will be Bauer’s 6th start and Ventura’s 12th. 

Trevor Bauer pitched to his 2nd straight no-decision in his last start and that held his record at 1- 2 with a 4.08 ERA.  The last time out, Bauer gave up 4 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) in 6.1 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 6.  Bauer has already started more games this season than he did in all of 2013 when he started 4 games and compiled a record of 1 - 2 with a 5.29 ERA. 

Last season, Bauer didn’t face the Royals and he has no experience against their lineup.  With help from the rest of the pitching staff and the scouting report, he should get the information needed to formulate a plan of attack against Kansas City.

Yordano Ventura comes into this start with a 3 – 5 record and a 3.41 ERA after winning his last outing.  In that start, Ventura allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 1.  It was Ventura’s first win after losing his previous 4 starts. With Monday’s rainout, Ventura will pitch with an extra day of rest and that should help him build some momentum.  Last season, Ventura was 0 – 1 in 3 starts with a 3.52 ERA. 

During his rookie campaign in 2013, Ventura pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Indians.  He allowed a run on 5 hits in 5.2 innings of work.  With just one career start against the Tribe, Ventura has minimal experience against the lineup but he could use last season’s start as an indication of what works and what doesn’t against Cleveland.
