Tuesday evening, Justin Masterson will take the hill for the Cleveland Indians as they face Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox. Masterson will be making his 12th start as Sale makes his 6th.

Justin Masterson got a no-decision in his last start despite giving up 5 runs on 8 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings of work.  He walked 3 while striking out 2 as his ERA rose to 5.32 and his record held at 2 – 3.  Masterson could match last season’s record of 14 – 10 and ERA of 3.45 in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances, but it seems unlikely at this point.

In 2013, Masterson was an impressive 4 – 0 with an ERA of 0.83 in 4 starts and a relief appearance against the White Sox.  This season, Masterson had a no-decision in his first start against the White Sox but he got a win in his second start after pitching 7.1 shutout innings and allowing just 4 hits.

Chris Sale improved to 4 – 0 with an ERA of 1.89 after winning his last outing.  In that start, Sale pitched 6 innings of shutout ball and allowed just one hit while striking out 10.  He looks to be well on his way to posting better numbers than last season when he went 11 – 14 with an ERA of 3.07 in 30 starts.

In 2013, Sale was 0 – 4 with an ERA of 8.61 in his 4 starts against the Indians.  But this season, he got a win over Cleveland after allowing 3 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings of work.
