Monday afternoon, Josh Tomlin and the Cleveland Indians will take on Jose Quintana and the Chicago White Sox. It will be Tomlin’s 4th start and 5th appearance this season as Quintana makes his 11th start.

Josh Tomlin got the win in his last start and that gave him a 3 – 1 record and a 2.91 ERA.  The last time out, Tomlin allowed just a run (on a solo homer) on 2 hits in 3 innings of work.  He walked 1 batter while striking out 6. Last season, after recovering from Tommy John surgery, he pitched just 2 innings.  

In 2013, the two innings of baseball that Tomlin pitched were against the Chicago White Sox.   Overall, the White Sox are batting just .222 against Tomlin with 12 hits, 2 homers and 4 RBIs in 54 at-bats.

Jose Quintana fell to 2 – 4 with a 3.67 ERA after taking the loss in his last start.  Quintana only allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 7.1 innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts.  But without any run support, his decent start was wasted.  In 2013, Quintana went 9 - 7 with a 3.51 ERA in 33 starts. 

Last season, Quintana was 1 – 0 with a 3.52 ERA in 4 starts against the Indians.  This season he pitched to a no decision against the Indians despite a 6 inning effort where he allowed just a run (on a solo homer) on 5 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
