Thursday evening, the Cleveland Indians and Josh Tomlin will face the Baltimore Orioles and Wei-Yin Chen.  It will be the 4th start for Tomlin and the 9th for Chen.

Josh Tomlin picked up his first loss of the season in his last start after surrendering 3 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) in 6 innings of work.   Tomlin walked 1 and struck out 2 as his record fell to 2 – 1 and his ERA rose to 2.89.  Last season, Tomlin pitched just 2 innings of work and allowed just 2 hits.

Tomlin missed all of 2012 and most of 2013 with elbow and wrist injuries but he does have some experience against the Orioles.   And Tomlin will have to watch out for Adam Jones.  Jones is 7 of 14 with 4 doubles, a homer and 3 RBIs against the right-hander. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched to his 2nd straight win and boosted his record to 5 – 2 with an ERA of 3.69 after his last start.  In that outing, Chen surrendered just a run on 7 hits in 5.1 innings of work as he walked 1 and struck out 1.   Last season, Chen pitched to a 7 – 7 record with a 4.07 ERA in 23 starts.

In 2013, Chen didn’t face the Indians but he has some experience against the Cleveland lineup.  And Chen has pitched well against the Indians, holding them to a .147 batting average with just 5 hits in 34 at-bats.
