Tuesday night, Johnny Cueto and the Cincinnati Reds will face Doug Fister and the Washington Nationals.  Cueto will be making his 10th start as Fister makes his 3rd.

Johnny Cueto has put together a decent season so far and enters this game with a 4 – 2 record and a 1.25 ERA.  He picked up the win in his last start after a complete game shutout where he allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8.  It was the third complete game and second shutout so far this season for Cueto.  In 11 starts during last season, Cueto didn’t pitch a shutout or a complete game as he compiled a 5 – 2 record with an ERA of 2.82. 

In 2013, Cueto won his only start against the Nationals with a 3 run and 7 hit performance through 6 innings.  Overall, he has done well against the Nationals as he has held them to a .250 batting average, 3 homers and 9 RBIS in 112 at-bats.

Doug Fister didn’t get the decision in his last outing and that kept his record at 0 – 1 with an ERA of 4.76.  The last time out, Fister went 7 innings and allowed a run on 5 hits without issuing a walk as he struck out 6.   In 2013, Fister went 14 – 9 with a 3.67 ERA in 32 starts and 1 relief appearance for the Detroit Tigers.

Last season, Fister didn’t face the Reds and he has limited experience against their lineup.  He has only faced 5 on the Cincinnati roster and those 5 are batting just .143 against the right-hander.
