Big right-hander Alfredo Simon will go for his tenth win of the season for the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night when they face Edinson Volquez and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last Thursday, Alfredo Simon was able to improve to 9-3 on the season by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers at home. It was his third win in a row and he got it by pitching eight innings of one-run ball while striking out five and walking zero. Simon now has an excellent 2.95 ERA on the year and an equally excellent 1.093 WHIP to go along with it.

Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen has four hits in 13 at-bats against Simon, including one home run. Travis Snider has five hits in 12 at-bats against him with a double and four RBI.

Last week, right-hander Edinson Volquez picked up his fourth win of the season by pitching seven scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs at home. He gave up seven hits in that game and walked two while striking out five. He is now 4-5 this season with a 3.89 ERA and he has only given up 68 hits in 78.2 innings of work.

Reds outfielder Jay Bruce has five hits in 10 at-bats against Volquez in his career with a double, a home run and two RBI. Second baseman Brandon Phillips has just one hit in 10 at-bats against him.
