Sunday afternoon, the Cincinnati Reds will take the field behind Tony Cingrani as they square off against the Philadelphia Phillies and Cliff Lee. Cingrani makes his 7th start as Lee makes his 10th.

Tony Cingrani will make this start after coming off of the 15 Day DL due to shoulder tendonitis.  He comes in with a record of 2 - 2 and an ERA of 3.34 after pitching to a no decision in his last start in April. In that outing, Cingrani allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) in 4 innings with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.  In 2013, Cingrani went 7 – 4 with a 2.92 ERA in 18 starts and 5 relief appearances.

Last season, Cingrani got a no decision in his only start against the Phillies.  Only 3 Phillies have hits off Cingrani but Jimmy Rollins has a 2 run homer as his only hit.

Cliff Lee’s record fell to 4 – 3 but his ERA dipped to 3.23 after he took the loss in his last outing.  In that start, Lee surrendered 4 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings of work as he walked 1 and struck out 7.  Lee still has time to equal or better his results from 2013 when he went 14 – 8 with a 2.87 ERA in 31 starts.

Last season, Lee started 2 games against the Reds but didn’t register a decision in either start. Brandon Phillips could be an issue for Lee as he is batting .323 with 5 doubles, a homer and 4 RBIs against the left-hander.
