The Cincinnati Reds will face the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night in the first of a three game series. The Reds will send Alfredo Simon to the mound to face Kyle Kendrick.

Simon is coming off his worst start of the season when he faced the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Simon only got through three innings and gave up five earned runs over eight hits with a walk. Simon had pitched well before that and still has a record of 4-2 with a 2.89 ERA so we’ll take this as a hiccup but he’ll have to get back on track or this could turn into a downward spiral. He’ll be facing a Phillies team that are currently hitting .250 against him.

Kyle Kendrick is 0-3 on the season with a 3.98 ERA. In his last outing against the New York Mets, he went 5.1 innings giving up four runs on four hits giving up two walks and tallying four strikeouts. He ended up taking a loss on the night as the offense couldn’t help him. The Phillies lost 5-4 on this night.

Current Cincinnati hitters have a career .265 average against Kendrick with six home runs over 132 at bats. Joey Votta is 6-for-15 when facing Kendrick with two doubles and a home run. Jay Bruce has also played well with a .353 average against Kendrick and two home runs. Kendrick will have to be careful of these batters if he wants to pick up his first win of the season.
