26-year-old Mike Leake will be making his first start of the season Friday night as the Cincinnati Reds go up against Jenrry Mejia and the New York Mets. Leake was able to post a 3.37 ERA last season, but his other stats make it look like he may have gotten a bit lucky. He was only able to strike out 5.71 hitters per nine innings, and he gave up 193 hits in 192.1 innings. However, he did keep his walk rate down to 2.25 per nine innings, so if he can maintain that type of command, he may just have a another solid year.

Mets star third baseman David Wright has faced Leake the most on the team, getting just three hits off of him in 15 career at-bats. Daniel Murphy is the lone Met to hit a homer off of Leake, but he has just two other hits against him in 15 at-bats.

Jenrry Mejia made just five starts for the Mets last season after being called up from the minors, but he did quite well in those starts. He was able to strike out nearly 9 batters per nine innings and he walked just 1.32. Those stats, along with his 2.30 ERA, were enough to earn him a spot in the Opening Day rotation.

Ryan Ludwick, Roger Bernadina, Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto are the only Reds' hitters who have faced Mejia. They only have five at-bats against him, but have combined for three hits.
