Citi Field will be the home to an early afternoon game this Sunday when the Cincinnati Reds finish off their series with the New York Mets. Getting the start for the Reds will be former reliever, Alfredo Simon, while the Mets will send 27-year-old left hander Jonathan Niese to the mound.

Simon, the 32-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, spent the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Orioles and made just 16 starts in 73 games. In the past two seasons with the Reds, he has made 99 appearances, all of which came out of the pen, but will be used for the first time this season as a starter. While most of his appearances against current New York players came out of the bullpen, Simon has held the current roster to an 0-for-17 mark, striking out Curtis Granderson three times in six at bats.

Niese has thrown more innings against the current Cincinnati roster, including five home runs. Brandon Phillips (7-for-18) has 2 home runs and 3 RBIs, while Zach Cozart has gone 3-for-10. Niese has had success against some of the better players in the lineup including Jay Bruce (2-for-13), Joey Votto (2-for-15) and Roger Bernadina (1-for-8). Niese is 43-40 in his career and will be making his first start of the season after going 8-8 in 24 starts last year.
