In a battle between two National League Central rivals, the Cincinnati Reds will travel to Miller Park to take on the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds are close to being eliminated from the playoffs already, while the Brewers are still within striking distance of the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates. The Brewers have been in a bit of a slide in recent weeks and will look to turn it around when Yovani Gallardo (8-9) gets the ball against David Holmberg (0-1).

Holmberg will be making just his 4th career start and 3rd of the 2014 season. In 12 innings this season, he has been roughed up for 11 earned runs on 17 hits and 10 walks with only 9 strikeouts. His ERA is currently 8.25 and he is coming off his best outing of the year where he shut the St. Louis Cardinals out for 5.2 innings.

Gallardo, the veteran from Mexico has not been himself this season. As the season has gone on, he has struggled a bit and is 0-3 in his last 4 starts including losses in 2 straight starts. When the team has needed him the most, he hasn’t been able to deliver. In his last 2 starts, he has lasted just 8.2 innings and has allowed 10 earned runs on 17 hits with only 5 strikeouts. In his career against current members of the Reds, he has allowed 91 hits in 309 at-bats including 15 hits for Jay Bruce, 22 hits for Brandon Phillips, and 12 hits for Ryan Ludwick.
