On Monday night, Cincinnati Reds starter Alfredo Simon will try to make it five wins in a row when he faces Jeff Samardzija and the Chicago Cubs.

Alfredo Simon kept his hot streak going by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road last Wednesday and picking up his league-leading tenth win of the year. He gave up three runs on five hits in that game while walking three and striking out five. Simon has a 10-3 record now and has only given up 76 hits in 88.2 innings of work.

Luis Valbuena has three hits in five at-bats against Simon in his career and is the only player on the Cubs who has been able to hit a home run off of him.

Jeff Samardzija didn't give up an earned run against the Miami Marlins last Tuesday, but he did give up three unearned runs and ended up with a no decision from that start. He pitched six innings in that game and allowed seven hits while striking out eight batters and walking three. Samardzija has struck out 90 batters in 97 innings this season and he has only given up five home runs.

Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is 7-for-22 against Samardzija in his career with a double, two home runs and two RBI. Second baseman Brandon Phillips is just 7-for-33 against him with no extra-base hits and seven strikeouts.
