Chicago White Sox at Toronto Blue Jays

Sunday afternoon, the Chicago White Sox will take the field behind Jose Quintana as they take on the Toronto Blue Jays and Mark Buehrle.  Both pitchers will be making their 17th starts of the season.

Jose Quintana improved his record to 4 – 7 with a 3.69 ERA after winning his last start.  In that outing, Quintana allowed just a run (on a solo homer) and 6 hits in 7 innings while walking 3 and striking out 8.  It was the 1st time in nearly 2 months that Quintana had allowed just 1 run in a start.  It’s still possible to equal the numbers he posted in 2013 when he was 9 – 7 with an ERA of 3.51 in 33 starts.

Last season, Quintana was 2 – 0 with a 1.77 ERA in 3 starts against the Blue Jays.  He has held the Toronto lineup to a .250 average with 17 hits, 2 home runs and 6 RBIs in 68 at-bats.

Mark Buehrle got a no-decision in his last outing and that kept his record at 10 – 4 with a 2.52 ERA.  In that start, Buehrle gave up 4 runs on 8 hits (including 2 homers) in 6.2 innings of work.   He struck out 3 without issuing any walks.   Prior to the no-decision, Buehrle had lost 4 straight after starting the season 10 - 1.  But Buehrle is well ahead of his results from 2013 when he went 12 – 10 with a 4.15 ERA in 33 starts.

Last season, Buehrle won his only start against the White Sox after allowing 2 runs and 9 hits in 6.1 innings. He hasn’t faced his former team that many times since leaving and they are batting .261 with 6 hits and 3 RBIs in 23 at-bats.
