Friday night, Jose Quintana (8 -10, 3.30 ERA) gets the call for the Chicago White Sox as they take on Jeremy Hellickson (1 – 3, 3.63 ERA) and the Tampa Bay Rays.  Quintana will make his 31st start as Hellickson makes his 12th.

Jose Quintana was masterful in his last outing and his performance led to another win for the young lefty.  Quintana held the opposition to a run on 3 hits through 7 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 13. The 13 strikeouts were a season-high for Quintana.  He has been sharp in his last 3 outings, going 2 – 0 and allowing just 4 runs. But in his last 10 starts, Quintana is just 3 - 3.  Last season, he went 9 – 7 with a 3.51 ERA in 33 starts.

In 2013, Quintana didn’t face the Rays but he has seen many of the Tampa Bay hitters before.  The Rays are batting .235 against Quintana with 4 hits and an RBI in 17 at-bats.

Jeremy Hellickson pitched to a no-decision for the 2nd time in as many starts his last time out.  He allowed 3 runs and 4 hits through 6 innings as he struck out 8 and walked 4.  Hellickson hasn’t had a victory in over a month’s time and he is just 1 -3 in his last 10 trips to the mound.  In 31 starts and a relief appearance in 2013, Hellickson compiled a 12 -10 record and a 5.17 ERA.

Hellickson was 1 -1 with a 4.15 ERA in 2 starts against the White Sox last season.  Chicago is batting .378 against Hellickson with 10 hits, a homer and 7 RBI in 36 at-bats.
