Wednesday afternoon, Jose Quintana (6 – 8, 3.04 ERA) gets the call for the Chicago White Sox as they face Jake Peavy (0 - 3, 4.82 ERA) and the San Francisco Giants.   Quintana makes his 25th start as Peavy makes his 24th.

Jose Quintana had a rough go of it his last time out and that led to him taking a loss.  He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings of work.  Quintana walked 2 and struck out 4.  The loss was Quintana’s first since mid-June.  Quintana hadn’t surrendered more than 3 runs in his last 9 starts but he is only 3 – 0 in that span.  In 2013, Quintana went 9 – 7 with a 3.51 ERA in 33 starts.

Last season, Quintana didn’t pitch against the Giants and he has only seen one of the San Francisco hitters before.  Michael Morse is 1 for 6 against Quintana.

Jake Peavy took yet another loss in his last outing and has yet to post a victory in his 3 starts for the Giants since coming over from the Boston Red Sox.   In defeat, Peavy gave up 3 runs and 9 hits in 5.2 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 3. Peavy hasn’t won a game since April and with the way things are going, he might not win another game this season.  2013 was completely different for Peavy as he posted a record of 12 - 5 with a 4.17 ERA in 23 starts for the Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox.

Last season, Peavy won his only start against the White Sox after allowing 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings. Earlier this season, Peavy got a no-decision against Chicago despite surrendering a run (on a solo homer) and 3 hits in 6 innings.
