Chicago White Sox - Rienzo, A (4-4) vs. Minnesota Twins - Correia, K (3-8)

Saturday afternoon, the Chicago White Sox will give the ball to Andre Rienzo as they square off against the Minnesota Twins and Kevin Correia.  Rienzo will be making his 11th start and 12th appearance as Correia makes his 15th start. 

Andre Rienzo dropped his 4th straight game in his last start and that lowered his record to 4 – 4 with a 5.67 ERA.  In that outing, Rienzo surrendered 6 runs on 6 hits (including 2 home runs) as he walked 4 and struck out 3.  Since opening the year 4 – 0, Rienzo has struggled. He has already posted better numbers than last season’s 2 – 3 record and 4.82 ERA in 10 starts.  But unless he halts this slide that he is on, things aren’t going to look good for the young right-hander.

In 2013, Rienzo didn’t face Minnesota but he has faced many of the current Twins.  The 7 Twins that have opposed Rienzo are batting a combined .235 with 8 hits, 2 homers and 3 RBIs in 34 at-bats.   

Kevin Correia lost his last outing and that took his record to 3 – 8 with a 5.29 ERA.  In that start, Correia gave up just a run on 5 hits in 6 innings of work as he walked 1 and struck out 2.  But the Twins got shutout and he took the loss. Correia seems headed for another season like 2013 when he went 9 - 13 with a 4.18 ERA in 31 starts.

Last season, Correia was 2 – 2 with a 2.31 ERA in 4 starts against the White Sox.  This season, he opened his year with a no-decision against Chicago after pitching 6 innings and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
