Scott Carroll will be looking to bounce back from a couple of rough starts when the Chicago White Sox take on Jason Vargas and the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.

Last Tuesday, Scott Carroll lost for the third start in a row when he was beaten by the Oakland Athletics on the road. He gave up six earned runs on 11 hits while walking one and striking out two. He started out the season pretty well, but Carroll has given up 12 runs in his last two starts and his ERA is now up to 5.24.

No one on the Royals has faced Carroll yet. They can expect to see a lot of his 89-91 mph fastball with a few sliders and curveballs mixed in.

Lefty Jason Vargas improved to 4-1 by getting the win against the Colorado Rockies last Wednesday. He pitched 6.2 innings in that start and gave up just two earned runs on five hits while striking out a season-high eight batters and walking one. His ERA is down to a solid 3.00 now and he's given up just 56 hits through 60 innings this season.

Paul Konerko has faced Vargas 18 over the years and has a .438 batting average against him with two doubles and a home run. Alexei Ramirez has eight hits in 18 plate appearances against Vargas with two home runs and four RBI.
