Saturday evening, the Chicago White Sox and Scott Carroll will take on the Cleveland Indians and Justin Masterson.  Carroll will make his 2nd start of the season as Masterson makes his 7th. 

Scott Carroll comes into this one after winning his major league debut.  In that outing, Carroll pitched a strong 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.   Carroll started the season with Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte and his numbers there were impressive considering the fact that he is 29 and coming off Tommy John surgery 2 years ago.  In the minors this season, Carroll was 3 – 1 with an ERA of 1.57. 

Justin Masterson picked up his first decision in 6 starts the last time out but that decision was a loss.  In 7.1 innings of work, Masterson allowed 6 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.  It pushed his ERA to 4.84 to go with the 0 – 1 record.  Last season, Masterson was 14 – 10 with an ERA of 3.45 in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances.

In 2013, Masterson was an impressive 4 - 0 with an ERA of 0.83 in 4 starts and a relief appearance against the White Sox.  This season, he didn’t get a decision against Chicago after lasting just 4.2 innings and allowing 6 runs on 7 hits.  Chicago’s Paul Konerko is just batting .231 against Masterson but he has a homer and 8 RBIs against the right-hander.
