Monday night, the Chicago White Sox and Scott Carroll will face the Boston Red Sox and Clay Buchholz. Carroll makes his 8^th start and 14 ^th appearance as Buchholz makes his 13^th start.

Scott Carroll took his 2^nd straight loss in his last outing and that dropped his record to 2 - 5 with a 4.05 ERA. In the loss, Carroll was torched for 7 runs and 10 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings of work. He walked 3 and only struck out 2. In his 2 starts, Carroll has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) and 17 hits in 11 innings. Even as a rookie, those numbers are tough to look at.

Carroll has never faced the Red Sox and a great scouting report might not be enough to help him get past the Boston lineup.

Clay Buchholz didn't get the decision in his last outing and that kept his record at 3 - 4 with a 6.22 ERA. It was a good start however for Buchholz as he pitched 6.1 innings and surrendered just a run on 5 hits. He struck out 2 without issuing a walk. A rough start to the season ballooned his ERA but if he continues to pitch well he should be able to lower it. Last season, Buchholz was an impressive 12 - 1 with a 1.74 ERA in 16 starts.

In 2013, Buchholz won his only start against the White Sox behind a 7 inning, 1 run and 5 hit performance. This season, he pitched to no-decision against Chicago after allowing 3 runs and 6 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings of work.
