Tuesday night, the Chicago White Sox will take the field behind Jose Quintana as they take on the Baltimore Orioles and Miguel Gonzalez.  Quintana makes his 16th start as Gonzalez makes his 12th start and 13th appearance.

Jose Quintana pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 3 – 7 with a 3.87 ERA.  In his last start, Quintana went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) while walking 1 and striking out 6.  The no-decision was a minor victory for a pitcher who has lost his last 3 outings.  Without a major turnaround, he might just barely match his results from 2013 when he went 9 – 7 with a 3.51 ERA in 33 starts.

Last season, Quintana was 0 – 1 with a 1.93 ERA in 2 starts against the Orioles. He would be wise to pitch around Baltimore’s Adam Jones.  Jones is batting .500 against Quintana with 2 homers and 3 RBIs.

Miguel Gonzalez got the win his last time out and that evened his record at 4 – 4 with a 4.41 ERA.  In that start, Gonzalez gave up 4 runs and 8 hits (including 2 home runs) in 5 innings of work.  He walked 2 while striking out 5. Gonzalez still has a long way to go to match the numbers he posted in 2013 when he went 11 – 8 with a 3.78 ERA in 28 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Last season, Gonzalez won his only start against the White Sox behind a 7 inning effort where he allowed a run on 4 hits.  In the past, Gonzalez has handled the Baltimore lineup well. The Orioles are batting just .206 with 7 hits, a homer and 2 RBIs in 34 at-bats.
