Tuesday night, the Chicago Cubs will send Jake Arrieta (8 – 5, 2.81 ERA) to the mound to take on the Toronto Blue Jays and Mark Buehrle (11 – 9, 3.34 ERA).  Arrieta makes his 23rd start as Buehrle makes his 29th.

Jake Arrieta got the win his last time out after holding the opposition to a run on 5 hits through 6 innings.  He walked 2 and struck out 4.  Arrieta has gone from good to bad to terrible in recent weeks and is 3 – 4 in his last 10 starts.   In 2013, Arrieta made 14 starts for the Cubs and the Baltimore Orioles en route to a 5 – 4 record and a 4.78 ERA.  

Last season, Arrieta didn’t face the Blue Jays but he has seen the lineup before.  Toronto is batting just .149 against Arrieta with 10 hits, 3 homers and 8 RBIs in 67 at-bats.

Mark Buehrle was brilliant his last time out but it wasn’t enough to get him the victory.  Buehrle threw 8 innings of shutout ball and surrendered just 5 hits and a walk as he struck out 4.  Buehrle hasn’t been able to muster performances like that in recent weeks and it was a shame that he wasn’t rewarded for it.  He is just 1 - 3 in his last 10 outings.  In 2013, Buehrle went 12 -10 with a 4.15 ERA in 33 starts.

Buehrle didn’t face the Cubs in the 2013 season and has only faced 6 of the Cubs before. Those 6 Cubs are batting .200 against Buehrle with 7 hits, a home run and 4 RBIs in 35 at-bats.
