In a game that will feature two of the better starters in the NL at the moment, Jason Hammel and the Chicago Cubs will face Michael Wacha and the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.

Jason Hammel was able to pitch seven strong innings of two-run ball last Friday against the Atlanta Braves, but he ended up with a no decision in a game the Cubs eventually lost 3-2. Hammel was able to scatter seven hits in that game and struck out five while walking just one. He is still 4-1 on the season through seven starts and he has a 2.45 ERA.

One player on the Cardinals that Hammel has never liked facing is Jhonny Peralta, who is 8-for-17 against him with a double, two home runs and eight RBI. Yadier Molina has just one hit off of Hammel in six career plate appearances.

22-year-old right-hander Michael Wacha had one of his shortest outings of the year so far when he made it through just five innings in his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates last week. He gave up three runs on seven hits in that game while striking out seven and walking one. He still has a very good 2.85 ERA and he has struck out 10.8 batters per nine innings.

Cubs outfielder Junior Lake has gotten five hits off of Wacha in eight at-bats with a double, a home run and two RBI.
