Monday night, Travis Wood will take the hill for the Chicago Cubs as they square off against Tyler Lyons and the St. Louis Cardinals.  It will be the 8th start for Wood as Lyons makes his 4th start and 6th appearance of the year.

Travis Wood took a loss his last time out as his record fell to 2 – 4 and his ERA rose to 4.75 after a brutal 4 inning start.  Wood surrendered 8 runs on 8 hits (including a home run) as he walked 5 and struck out 3.  Last season, Wood went 9 - 12 with a 3.11 ERA in 32 starts. 

In 2013, Wood was 1 - 3 with a 4.91 ERA in 5 starts against the Cardinals.  But a little over a week ago, Wood beat St. Louis with a 7 inning effort where he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits.

Tyler Lyons is still looking for a win after three straight no decisions have left his record at 0 – 2 with a 3.43 ERA.  In his last outing, Lyons allowed a run (on a solo homer) and 4 hits with a walk and 7 strikeouts in 6 innings of work.  In his rookie season in 2013, Lyons pitched to a 2 – 4 record and a 4.75 ERA in 8 starts and 4 relief appearances. 

Last season, Lyons didn’t get to face the Cubs but he did see them less than a week ago.  In that appearance, Lyons pitched just an inning and didn’t allow anything. Overall, he has only given up 2 hits to the Cubs lineup and those hits belong to Justin Ruggiano.  Ruggiano is 2 of 3 with 2 RBIs against the young left-hander.
