Sunday afternoon Edwin Jackson will take the mound for the Chicago Cubs as they take on Michael Wacha and the St. Louis Cardinals.   It will be the third start for each pitcher.

Edwin Jackson had a short night in his last outing.  Jackson didn’t get the loss despite giving up 6 runs on 9 hits in just 4.2 innings.  Jackson started poorly but eventually got “better”.  Last season was the third straight that Jackson saw his ERA and losses rise as his wins declined.   Things will certainly have to change or the trend will continue.

Michael Wacha has been on fire this season.  In 2 starts, Wacha is 1 – 0 with an ERA of 0.71.  In his last start, Wacha went 6 innings and allowed just 1 run on 7 hits.   Last season, Wacha was 4 – 1 in 9 starts and 6 relief appearances.

In 2013, Wacha started 1 game and appeared in another against the Cubs.  He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings.   Wacha has only faced 6 hitters on the Chicago roster and no one has more than 1 hit against him.
