The Chicago Cubs will visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night in the final meeting of the four game series. The Cubs will send Jeff Samardzija to the mound to face Lance Lynn from the Cardinals.

Samardzija easily has the worst luck in the majors holding a 0-3 record with a 1.45 ERA which puts him at second in the National League. He hasn’t had a win in 14 starts going back to last season. In his last outing, Samardzija pitched six scoreless innings only giving up two hits and a walk as the Cubs once again fell by a score of 2-0. Samardzija currently has a 15 inning scoreless streak with only five hits allowed over that period. He’ll be facing the second place Cardinals on Thursday.

Current St. Louis batters have played well against Samardzija hitting for a .315 average over 127 at bats. Yadier Molina has terrorized Samardzija over his career going 10-for-20.

Lynn, on the other hand, has been trending downward as he’s lost two of his last four with two no decisions and given up 11 runs in those four games. On Saturday, Lynn pitched six innings and gave up four runs over nine hits. He struck out five and walked two in a 3-4 loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Current Cubs hitters are hitting .230 against Lynn over 122 at bats. Starlin Castro has played well against Lynn going 10-for-30 over his career with three doubles, a triple, and three RBIs. Anthony Rizzo has been held in check against Lynn going 5-for-22 and striking out five times.
