Jeff Samardzija will be hoping that he can finally get his first win of the season when the Chicago Cubs face Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants on Monday afternoon.

Jeff Samardzija ended up with a no decision against the New York Yankees last Wednesday, but he definitely deserved a win after pitching seven scoreless innings. He gave up just four hits in that start and walked two while striking out three. Unbelievably, he is still without a win on the season despite having a 1.46 ERA. He has gotten just 1.80 per start from his offense.

Hunter Pence is one player on the Giants who has done well against Samardzija in his career by going 3-for-8 with a double against him. No one on the Giants has hit a home run off of the big right-hander yet.

Matt Cain suffered a strained hamstring in his start against the Colorado Rockies in his last start, but the MRI came back negative and he is ready to pitch on Monday. He went just three innings in that game before being pulled, but he pitched well by giving up no hits and striking out three. Cain is 1-3 on the season, but his 3.66 ERA suggests that he's been a bit unlucky.

Starlin Castro has faced Cain more than any of his Cub teammates and is 5-for-20 against him with a home run and five strikeouts.
