Edwin Jackson will make the start for the Chicago Cubs on Friday night and will be going up against Robbie Erlin and the San Diego Padres.

Edwin Jackson had his best game of the young season last week against the Milwaukee Brewers when he pitched seven shutout innings and picked up his third win. He gave up just four hits in that start and struck out a season-high 11 batters while walking just one. His ERA dropped to 3.98 on the year and he has given up just two home runs in 54.1 innings of work.

Carlos Quentin is one Padres who likes facing Jackson, going 6-for-16 against him with three doubles, a home run and five RBI. First baseman Yonder Alonso is 6-for-12 against the veteran right-hander with two doubles and a homer.

Robbie Erlin didn't pitch particularly well in his start against the Colorado Rockies a week ago, but he did pick up his third win of the season. He went five innings in that outing and gave up four earned runs on nine hits while walking none and striking out two. He now has a 3-4 record on the season with a 4.53 ERA and has 39 strikeouts through 47.2 innings.

None of the Cubs' hitters have faced Erlin more than once in their careers. Anthony Rizzo is 1-for-1 against him with a double and an RBI.
