Chicago Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta will take the mound on Friday and will go up against Eric Stults and the San Diego Padres.

Jake Arrieta could only make it through four innings in his start against the St. Louis Cardinals last week and ended up with his third no decision in three starts. He gave up one run on four hits in that game while striking out five and walking five. He has a 2.70 ERA through 13.1 innings, but he has walked eight batters already.

Veteran outfielder Carlos Quentin has faced Arrieta more than any of his teammates and is 1-for-4 against him with an RBI and two strikeouts. Will Venable is 1-1 against the big right-hander with a walk and a home run.

Lefty Eric Stults lost for the second time on the season when he was defeated by the Colorado Rockies on the road last week despite giving up just one earned run. He went 6.2 innings in that start and gave up six hits while striking out two and walking one. He is now 2-4 on the year with a 4.50 ERA through 46 innings.

Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney has five hits in 10 at-bats against Stults with four doubles, a home run and three RBI. First baseman Anthony Rizzo has just one hit in eight at-bats against him with one walk.
