Jason Hammel will be shooting for his sixth win of the season when the Chicago Cubs take on Ian Kennedy and the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon.

Jason Hammel made his ninth start of the season last Tuesday and ended up picking up his fifth win by beating the New York Yankees at home. He went 5.2 innings in that start and gave up just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out six. He now has a 5-2 record on the year and a 2.91 ERA through 58.2 innings.

Nick Hundley has done better than any of his Padre teammates against Hammel by going 7-for-14 with three doubles, a home run and two RBI. Will Venable is just 1-for-15 against him with three strikeouts.

Ian Kennedy lost for the sixth time this season when he was defeated by the Minnesota Twins last week. He ended up giving up four runs in 6.2 innings in that game and walked two while striking out six. He is now 2-6 on the season, but he has gotten just 2.08 runs of support from his offense.

Nate Schierholtz will probably find himself in the Cubs' lineup on Sunday because he is 6-for-19 against Kennedy with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. Chris Coghlan also has a home run against the right-hander, but that is the only hit he has off of him in 12 at-bats.
