Tuesday night, the Chicago Cubs and Travis Wood will face the Pittsburgh Pirates and Francisco Liriano. Wood will make his 13th start as Liriano makes his 14th. 

Travis Wood pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 5 – 5 with a 5.04 ERA.  In that start, Wood pitched 5 innings and surrendered 2 runs on 4 hits with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. It was the second time this season that Wood issued 5 walks in a game. In 2013, Wood posted a record of 9 - 12 with a 3.11 ERA.

Francisco Liriano saw his record fall to 1- 6 with a 4.54 ERA after taking another loss in his last outing.  In that start, Liriano surrendered 3 runs on just 1 hit in 5 innings of work.  He walked a season high 6 batters while striking out 7.  Liriano has virtually no chance of repeating his success in 2013 when he went 16 – 8 with a 3.02 ERA in 26 starts.    

Last season, Liriano was 3- 1 with a 2.12 ERA in 5 starts against the Cubs.  This year, Liriano opened the season against the Cubs and pitched to a no-decision after allowing just 4 hits in 6 scoreless innings.
