Chicago Cubs - Jackson, E (4-6) vs. Philadelphia Phillies - Buchanan, D (1-3)

Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will give the ball to Edwin Jackson as they square off against the Philadelphia Phillies and David Buchanan.  Jackson makes his 14th start as Buchanan makes his 5th.

Edwin Jackson took the loss his last time out and that dropped his record to 4 - 6 with a 4.70 ERA.  In his last start, Jackson surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 8.  The last few starts have been a struggle for Jackson and it seems like he is headed for another year like 2013 when he went 8 – 18 with a 4.98 ERA in 31 starts.

Last season, Jackson lost his only start against the Phillies after allowing 7 runs on 10 hits (including a home run) in just 5 innings.  Jackson will have to watch out for Jimmy Rollins since Rollins is 5 for 9 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs when facing the right-hander.

David Buchanan took his 3rd straight loss in his last outing and that sent his record to 1- 3 with a 6.08 ERA.  In the loss, Buchanan allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings.  He didn’t issue any walks as he struck out 6.  After winning his Major League debut, Buchanan has dropped the last 3 games and just isn’t giving the Phillies the quality starts that they need from him.

Buchanan has no experience against the Cubs and given the way that he has been pitching as of late, more than just the scouting report will be needed for him to succeed against the Cubs.
