Friday night, the Chicago Cubs and Jake Arrieta will take on the Philadelphia Phillies and Roberto Hernandez.  Arrieta makes his 8th start as Hernandez makes his 12th start and 15th appearance. 

Jake Arrieta pitched to his 2nd straight no-decision in his last start and that held his record at 1 – 1 with a 2.50 ERA.  In that start, Arrieta threw 6 scoreless innings and allowed just 3 hits without a walk while striking out 7.  Last season, Arrieta went 5 – 4 with a 4.78 ERA in 14 starts for the Cubs and the Baltimore Orioles. 

In 2013, Arrieta won his only start against the Phillies after pitching 6.2 innings and allowing a run (on a solo homer) and 3 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Overall, Arrieta has been successful against the Philadelphia lineup.  He has held them to a .160 average with just 4 hits, a homer and 4 RBIs in 25 at-bats.

Roberto Hernandez dropped his 2nd straight game in his last outing and that lowered his record to 2 – 4 with a 4.35 ERA.  The last time out, Hernandez gave up 4 runs on 4 this (including a home run) in just 4 innings of work.  He walked 3 while striking out 2.  In 2013, Hernandez went 6 – 13 with a save and an ERA of 4.89 in 24 starts and 8 relief appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays.  

Last season, Hernandez didn’t face the Cubs but he has faced them this season.  He picked up a win over the Cubs after a 5.1 inning effort where he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits (including a homer) with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
